Mental Health First Aid

Details

This 2-day workshop equips participants with the tools to provide initial support to someone who maybe developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental crisis until appropriate treatment is received or the crisis is resolved.

Ideal for a number of professions from medical and community services to education and legal, participants will learn the signs and symptoms of various mental health problems, where and how to get help and what has been proven to be effective through research.

The strategies taught are evidence based, following the MHFA Guidelines and is authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and is conducted by MHFA accredited instructors across Australia.

Learning objectives
Developing mental health problems covered include:
•Depression
•Anxiety
•Psychosis
•Substance abuse

Mental health crisis situations covered include:
•Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
•Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called self-harm)
•Panic attacks after a traumatic event
•Severe psychotic states
•Severe effects of alcohol and drugs
•Aggressive behaviours
