This interactive one day event provides a platform for organisations to come together to explore topical issues and workshop practical solutions to strengthen Volunteer Management and build organisational capacity for inclusive and culturally aware volunteering programs as well as share ideas and resources.

Multicultural Volunteering Conference: Empowering People, Connecting Communities.

Volunteering Victoria’s one day conference highlights the vital role volunteering plays as a conduit for greater social inclusion, economic participation and integration.

This interactive event provides a platform for organisations to come together to explore topical issues and workshop practical solutions to strengthen volunteer management and build organisational capacity for inclusive and culturally aware volunteering programs.

  • The program includes:
  • Keynote Address- “Empowering People, Connecting Commuities” Dr Irene Bouzo, Ethnic Communities’ Council Victoria
  • Panel Discussion- “Connecting Communities Through Active Citizenship”   Dr Rhonda Cumberland (South East Community Links) Eddie Micallef, (Ethnic Communities’ Council Victoria), Helen Kapalos (Victorian Multicultural Commission), Sarah Nicholson (Centre Multicultural Youth) and  Hong Lim MLA (Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Asia Engagement)
  • Mini Research Roundtable “Same, Same But Different – Growing Diversity in Volunteering” with Dr Christopher Baker (Swinburne Institute of Technology), Dr RoseAnne Misajon (Monash University), Betty Haralambous (National Ageing Research Institute) and Pino Migliorino (Cultural and Indigenous Research Centre Australia)

Five workshops will be delivered in two rounds (registrants will have a choice of two workshops):

  • Advocacy and the Art of Storytelling – this workshop addresses how to use storytelling to advocate for, and promote programs, influence people and gain support for multicultural volunteering
  • Inclusive Volunteering: Engaging With CALD Communities– a workshop for organisations looking to begin or expand their engagement with CALD communities as volunteers.
  • Taking a Strategic Approach to Inclusive Volunteering– for Volunteer Managers, HR Managers and CEOs looking at integrating multicultural volunteering as part of core business.
  • Joining the Dots: Collaboration and Connection – joining the dots on inter sector collaboration and connection to gain increased support for multicultural volunteering
  • Multicultural Volunteering:From Research to Action-discussion of the key findings from the recent DSS funded research into giving and volunteering in CALD and Indigenous communities.
