About the role:

In the role of a Child Nutrition Development Officer you will work collaboratively with the Child Nutrition and Wellbeing Program (CNP) team to support families with children aged 0-5 years, especially those experiencing growth faltering and child protection issues. More specifically, you will:

• Provide case management to carers and/or families needing ongoing support. This will include liaison and referrals with other NPYWC programs, community health services and clinics, child welfare agencies, and other welfare agencies servicing the NPYWC region.
• Provide individual education, advocacy and support to carers and families with children aged 0-5 years.
• Conduct regular nutrition and health promotion workshops in communities for carers/family, and community members.
• Work together with the CNP team to source, develop and produce appropriate and innovative resource material to raise the awareness of good food and strong parenting for children.
• Work together with nominated and/or appointed Anangu community members in program development, delivery and evaluation.
• Provide nutrition advice to community stores and schools and assist with the development of nutrition policies in consultation with these agencies and community members.
• Assist NPYWC member communities to identify needs and gaps in the provision of services for children and work with the CNP team to advocate these needs to relevant government and non-government agencies.
• Maintain regular communication and effective co-ordination with other regional and local organisations to ensure that services for children in the NPY region are holistic and collaborative.
• Together with the CFWS Manager and other CNP team members participate in the development of policies and procedures for the CNP.
• Administer and maintain accurate records, data collections and reports as required by the funding body within the specified time frame and in consultation with the CFWS Manager. This includes client case file management, educational and other service delivery statistics including the administration of Emergency Relief and brokerage funds and reports to team meetings, the CFWS Manager, NPYWC Directors and Communities.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking passionate and motivated individuals with formal qualifications in the health, human services or early childhood related fields; or significant and demonstrated experience in conducting health promotion, education and/or family support activities. Additionally, the successful candidate will have:

• Experience in, and a commitment to, community development.
• Familiarity of working in a remote community or setting where flexibility and extensive travel is required.
• An understanding of the issues that affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in remote communities.
• Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, including working in partnership with Anangu staff and taking direction from management.
• Good written and verbal communication skills across diverse groups, from Anangu communities, staff and management to government and other non- government agencies.
• Capability to be flexible and work co-operatively in a team.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision including being able to plan and use time effectively.
• Demonstrated case management experience.
• Experience, knowledge and commitment to implementing projects using an action research model.
• Experience in the development and implementation of projects and policy.
• Demonstrated ability to develop good working relationships across a range of sectors and in a variety of settings.
