About the Organisation
EDVOS is the specialist family violence service in the Eastern Metropolitan Region and covers the municipalities of Boroondara, Manningham, Whitehorse, Knox, Monash, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges.
We provide an integrated range of support and services to empower women and children who have experienced and are responding to domestic or family violence. We focus on ensuring the safety of women and children, and the accountability of perpetrators. We provide support, advice, information, case management, safety planning, community education, programs for pet safety and a strong network of referral pathways to other services.
EDVOS is a child- focused and child safe organisation and we are committed to promoting and protecting the safety and interests of children.
About the Opportunity
EDVOS has a rewarding opportunity available for a Family Violence Counsellor to join our friendly team, initially on a 12 month contract (0.4 – 0.6 FTE) in the eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne. Days and hours of work negotiable.
Women from an ATSI or CALD background are encouraged to apply.
As you will be ensuring the delivery of quality service to women and children, applicants for this role must be female, as permitted by EEO Exemption no. VCAT A196/2012.
The Family Violence Counsellor aims to provide a flexible and responsive counselling service to women and children accessing services at EDVOS. The role requires the provision of one-to-one counselling, including intake and assessment and the development of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
To be successful in this role you must meet the following selection criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work (accredited Mental Health) or Psychology and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional body.
• Demonstrated experience and skills in counselling, intake and assessment, knowledge of Family Violence, service provision and advocacy.
• An understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of a specialist family violence service.
• Preference will be given to applicants who are eligible for registration as an MBS provider, either as Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and/or Psychologist.
• Capacity to provide high quality family violence counselling to a diverse range of clients including women and children with: CALD backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women and children, women who identify as LGBTI, women living with a disability and young women is highly desirable .
• Knowledge of Family Therapy and/or Trauma Informed Practice is highly desirable.
