About the Organisation

Established in 1970, the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW) is a charity on a mission to safeguard Australia’s wilderness and wildlife for future generations. It is not part of any government department, and maintains an apolitical stance. It has raised over $58 million in its history for Australian conservation. One of its major activities is acquiring land for Australia’s National Parks system.

FNPW is seeking a skilled individual to manage a range of communication channels. This is a full-time permanent position with a probation period of three months.

About the Role

The Communications Officer manages:

  • Monthly e-newsletter and supporting materials for an environmental education program
  • Quarterly publications – producing three supporter magazines and one annual report per year
  • PR – writing and distributing media releases, liaising with journalists, and reporting on results
  • Online and Social Media presence – updating websites and profiles on a regular basis
  • From time to time this position also responds to queries from the public, coordinates stalls, manages volunteers, and supports fundraising initiatives.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, with ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good eye for design and visual presentation
  • Ability to work in a low resource environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to use feedback to improve
  • Cares for the environment

 

Specialist skills

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Proficiency in internet research techniques
  • Ability to consistently apply house style across all communications
  • Proven experience in web content preparation and publishing (favoured)
  • Familiarity with website tracking and reporting using Google Analytics (favoured)

 

Highly regarded

Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, HTML, CMS, Google Analytics and Adwords, Facebook Adverts would be an asset, though training can be offered.

 

Organisational relationships

Position supervisor: Communications & Marketing Manager

Location

The position is based at the Foundation for National Park & Wildlife’s office at 52 Phillip Street Sydney. Only NSW residents will be considered for this position.

Salary range

$55,000 – $60,000 including superannuation.
