About the role

NDS’s members range in size from small support groups to large multi-service organisations, and are located in every State and Territory across Australia.

Position Overview: projectABLE is the student-focused component of the carecareers’ initiative, which is aimed at inspiring secondary and tertiary students to seek a career in the disability and community care sector. The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for generating school commitment and securing student placements in the program, as well as sourcing engagement opportunities for students beyond program participation.  

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement plans to increase the numbers of students who consider a career in disability through engagement with projectABLE and carecareers
  • Liaise with educational bodies, service providers and other relevant organisations to coordinate program of student engagement and activities including schedule of workshops and events.
  • Coordinate and deliver engaging presentations to educational bodies and student groups to promote the value of working within the disability and community care sector
  • Lead, mentor and support a team of projectABLE Presenters with disability in the delivery of successful workshops
  • Coordinate projectABLE and carecareers’ involvement in various careers expos and other careers targeted events
  • Seek and recommend opportunities to promote student programs
  • Facilitate student placements within the disability and community care sector (including but not limited to; volunteer placements, work experience, cadetships, School Based Traineeships, TVET support, clinical placements, professional work placements and community engagement initiatives)
  • Coordinate communications and collateral for the program
  • Provide assistance to Student Programs Manager and team as required
  • Other duties as required

  Key Attributes:

  1. Experience and understanding of youth programs and school communities;
  2. Experience and/or understanding of disability and the disability sector;
  3. Experience and confidence in presenting to medium to large groups;
  4. Well-developed interpersonal skills, and proven capacity to consult, negotiate and develop networks with a range of stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes;
  5. Demonstrated experience working within a team to successfully attain project and company objectives;
  6. Experience in undertaking community development and/or training activities in the not-for-profit and/or education sector;
  7. Highly effective written and oral communication skills with a proven capacity to develop cogent reports;
  8. Highly effective written and oral communication skills with a proven capacity to develop cogent reports;
  9. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, social media, CRM and EDM tools;
  10. As frequent travel is required, independent travel capability and a driver’s license is essential.

  Desirable:

  1. A teaching qualification and/or equivalent experience in training and leading a team
  2. Moderate to advanced experience using digital platforms
