Our Mission / Objective
Founded by Fr Werenfried van Straaten in 1947, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is a Pontifical Foundation and the only international Catholic organisation that focuses on the pastoral and spiritual support of persecuted and suffering Christians. ACN offers its support in the way of prayer, pastoral relief and material assistance.
Through the contributions of 400,000 benefactors across 23 nations, ACN raises approximately AUD $200 million annually for some 5,000 projects in 140 countries. The benefactors of ACN across the globe are kept informed through the “Mirror” newsletter published eight times each year.
Projects in Progress
Aid to the Church in Need has eight major project areas responding to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the suffering Church:
* Mass offerings for poor priests
* Formation of seminarians and priests
* Existence help for religious sisters
* Education of catechists
* Construction of churches and church buildings
* Transport for pastoral care
* Emergency assistance for Christian refugees
* Distribution of Bibles and religious books
Benefactors are able to direct their offering to one of these project areas, or, simply make a general donation to the projects most in need.

How to help us
Wills and Bequests
Help our Future Priests by including us in your Will
We in the Western world may feel discouraged by a lack of priestly vocations, but thousands of young men around the world hunger to offer their lives to God each year.
But for many, it is a difficult journey of suffering, poverty, sacrifice and persecution. Frequently, there is a lack of books and food is scant; several students share one small room in the dilapidated, unheated seminaries. Some even risk arrest and imprisonment.
Without the help of Aid to the Church in Need’s benefactors, countless young men would be unable to answer God’s calling…
Every year, Aid to the Church in Need supports over 14,000 poor or persecuted seminarians around the world.
Information on leaving a Bequest to Aid to the Church in Need can be found on our website or by calling our office.
