Our Mission / Objective

The Bernie Banton Foundation aspires to alleviate asbestos exposure and resultant suffering through awareness and advocacy.

We provide a peer-based support and information service to those who have been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma cancer or another asbestos related disease, and to their carers and immediate family members, as well as those who are bereaved.

When a person contacts the Bernie Banton Foundation about support or information, they speak directly with somebody who has walked the walk. No two journeys are exactly the same, but we have walked a similar path. Having walked this road makes all the difference in being able to help answer the multitude of questions a person may have, and navigate the journey ahead.

And, when it comes to advocacy on asbestos issues: the Bernie Banton Foundation truly is: ‘the voice of reason for Australian asbestos disease sufferers and the broader community.’

Our Services

The foundation's asbestos awareness and education unit provides asbestos disease related and asbestos related information:

1) through our 24/7 Freecall® peer-based support helpline;

2) online via our comprehensive website, social media news, information & support sites; and

3) in person - the unit conducts symposiums and information sessions; and exhibits at conferences, home shows, community events, etc. with its Mobile Resource Centre (Stan’s Van); when funding permits.

Our Beneficiaries

Through advocacy, raising awareness, peer-based support and lobbying for funding for medical research - metropolitan and rural communities across Australia, as well as generations to come, benefit from the activities of the Bernie Banton Foundation.

The ultimate goal of the Bernie Banton Foundation is to be a voice and catalyst toward the eventual elimination of asbestos related disease suffering and death.

Projects in Progress

Bernie Banton Foundation has several exciting projects planned for 2017 and beyond, contingent on receiving government funding and/or sufficient donations and bequests.

Information about these projects is available by contacting the Foundation.

How to help us

Wills and Bequests

Bequests are an important source of funding for the Foundation and will help us to expand our community projects and our reach, toward eradicating these insidious asbestos related diseases. So, please contact us for information about updating your Will.

General Donations

We rely solely on personal and corporate donations, so please help by giving what you can. Your support will help us continue our peer-based support, advocacy, raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos and how to manage the risk. You donation made securely online now will be greatly appreciated.

Other support

Fundraising is another way in which you may choose to support our Foundation. Please contact us for more information.

Work with us

The Foundation welcomes corporate match-giving as well as recurring donations from the general public, as these forms of giving (however great or small the donations) help us enormously in planning continuity for conducting projects within the community that will ultimately save lives. Please contact us for further information.

Volunteer with us

We are blessed to have people who fundraise for us in various ways. If you wish to contribute your time, energy and/or skills to helping us, or would like to be involved, please contact us.
