Our Mission / Objective

CAPS AU (Child Abuse Prevention Service) is the first child abuse prevention org in Australia, founded in 1973. CAPS empowers families and communities to form connected relationships, creating a safe and secure next generation of healthy, functional adults.

CAPS works with educators, kids, adult survivors, conducts research  and provides policy advice to break the cycle of child abuse forever.  CAPS is also unique because we have a partnership with CDVA (Childhood Domestic Violence Australia) as we understand Adverse Childhood Experiences that lead to trauma include CDV (childhood domestic violence)

CAPS Vision: CAPS is the preferred and trusted provider of effective programs and services that build connections in families, so children can feel safe, supported and loved.
CAPS Mission through its innovative approach to prevention and early intervention, CAPS fosters positive child development by:
1. Enhancing child well being
2. Building resilience in children
3. Supporting connected families

Our Services

At CAPS we only use evidence based services that produce the best results. We continue to grow and respond to community needs and are in a scaling up period especially after The Royal Commission and our partnership with CDVA (with the world famous sister org in the US, CDV Association). Your donations actually support people at the coalface with our professional team, including Dr Reina Michaelson, Head of Research and Programs (and also former Young Australian of the Year)

We have scoured the world programs to bring Safe Children, Safe Families Protective Behaviours program, Thriving Families Project to Australia. It is the only attachment, relationship based program that gets the results CAPS considers meets our strategic objectives.

Our programs start with before birth. Mums and Dads to be thriving parenting program starts the suite of programs. These two programs focus on helping each gender to be prepared as best they can to raise happy healthy secure children.

Thriving Families Project works with parents with new borne through the early years of life. Based upon exceptional research these evidence based programs produce excellent results for the family unit, children and parents.  The suite of programs covers 0 to 8 years of age.

We also offer the Safe Children, Safe Families Program which provides protective behaviours education for Parents, Childcare educators and Children in an age appropriate, supported process to ensure 3 to 8 year old get the valuable information, support and protection they need. The Evidence based program demonstrates excellence in helping children, identify emotions, safe and unsafe situations, communication and safety rule application as well as helping the whole system support the child to develop emotional maturity, and social competence in preparing for school.

Our Beneficiaries

CAPS programs covers all demographics, and cultural backgrounds within Australia. We focus on new and existing parents working with them to ensure the next generation have the optimal start to life and prevent any risk factors whilst enhancing protective factors within the family, childcare centre and school.

Our range of programs are now reaching NSW and will soon be available to Australia wide audiences.

Projects in Progress

We have two significant projects under way that we require your support to fund.

1st is Safe Children Safe Families Project. We are continuing our research to provide ongoing evidence of the significant results we are achieving from this program. research requires dollars to demonstrate the changes we are achieving.

2nd is Thriving Families Project.  We need to employ staff to be trained in the Thriving Families Project wrap around service model. The aim is to roll out training across Australia and research the programs impact within the Australian context. It is also acclaimed for its cultural appropriate processes. We hope to apply the program with the Australian Aboriginal community to ensure it is culturally appropriate for our aboriginal context.

help us put these projects into action!
