Our Mission / Objective

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in honour of Daniel Morcombe to make Australia a safer place for children.

It was founded by parents Bruce and Denise after their son was abducted and murdered in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Our Vision

Today we build a future where children are free from harm and abuse.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation would like to see a future where all children and young people are provided with education, protection, and support to be safe from abuse and risk of harm.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation provides personal child safety education to children and young people at no cost, to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing. We support educators, parents, and carers through the provision of resources and education and directly support young victims of crime.

Foundation Objectives

  1. To educate children regarding their personal safety (including abduction).
  2. To assist child victims of crime
  3. To remember Daniel with suitable child safety community awareness events.
  4. To support the families of missing persons, particularly where it involves children.

Projects in Progress

HARM PREVENTION & EDUCATION

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation provides educators and parents with resources to educate children and young people about their personal safety. Our Keeping Kids Safe Resources, educational events such as Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson, and professional development for educators all contribute to making Australian communities a safer place for all children.

The Foundation is also committed to assisting children and young people who have been victims of crime and making a positive difference to their lives. Every child and young person has the right to be safe, and our Victims of Crime program assists through the sourcing of items and services to further support children to better their lives and situations.

DAY FOR DANIEL

Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s signature event of the year and is Australia’s largest day of action for child safety education and awareness. Held annually on the last Friday of October, schools, early learning centres, businesses, workplaces, and communities come together on Day for Daniel to take action in their community and conduct child safety education or events.
