Our Mission / Objective

We are the New South Wales branch of Diabetes Australia which formed on 27 July 1938.

Diabetes NSW works proactively to improve the day-to-day lives of people living with diabetes, help prevent diabetes-related complications and make things easier by educating carers, employers and the general public.

We are Australia’s largest member-based non-profit organisation dedicated to people living with or at risk of diabetes. We have a growing community of more than 208,000 members and supporter members State-wide – including people with diabetes, their families and friends. Our priority is their health and wellbeing, enabling them to live their lives well through positive support and education – every step of the way.

Our army of more than 200 volunteers and ambassadors assist us to raise awareness and funds that are used to provide support and campaign for change.

Diabetes NSW also offers professional membership to more than more than 350 healthcare professionals from various clinical settings and is currently building a strong team of sponsors and corporate partners.

Our Services

What we do

Support and Community

Diabetes NSW provides immediate, trusted information, advice and support for people living with diabetes and their families and carers. There are various ways people living with and at risk of diabetes can access this support including contacting the Customer Care Line on 1300 136 588, attending an information day (or workshop or event), or by dropping in to one of our Resource Centres.

Our community of over 48,000 members creates a sense of belonging, providing people the opportunity to share experiences and collaborate with their peers.

Diabetes NSW has an Ambassador Program, which currently includes approximately 30 members, covering a range of ages, who are living with diabetes.  Each ambassador has a unique, inspiring story to share and offers great support and encouragement for people who are newly diagnosed with diabetes.

Many of our ambassadors actively engage in our campaigns, are involved with the Community Awareness Speakers Program and provide comment to the media. If you are interested in the Ambassador Program or in becoming an ambassador for Diabetes NSW, contact the Customer Care Line on 1300 136 588.

How to help us

General Donations

Fundraise for us!

Fundraising can be an extremely fulfilling experience at both an individual and enterprise level. It helps with employee engagement, team building and can improve the wellbeing of your workforce. It also provides an incredibly important revenue stream through which Diabetes NSW can continue to help individuals living with and at risk of diabetes.

With 290 people in Australia diagnosed with diabetes every day and the incidence of diabetes increasing at an alarming rate, fundraising helps finance our crucial education, prevention and management programs and offers support to all those impacted by diabetes – Australia’s fastest growing chronic disease.

Diabetes NSW actively encourages individuals, communities and corporate organisations to participate in fundraising activities in any manner of ways fitting their situation. The process of your organisation becoming involved is very simple and will give a number of benefits to your organisation and staff involved.

Other support

Workplace Giving

Recent research shows that diabetes affects 1 in 4 people in the workplace. This is an alarming statistic that is only set to rise as the diabetes epidemic continues to grow.

Diabetes NSW relies heavily on contributions from our generous supporters and Corporate Partners. Supporting our cause through workplace giving can have a huge impact helping to fund our vital education, prevention and management programs, awareness projects and support crucial research.

Regular giving provides Diabetes NSW with a stable supply of income which allows us to plan and implement a variety of programs that increase awareness of diabetes in the community and offers support to those who need it most.

By participating in workplace giving, you can truly make a positive difference to the lives of people living with and at risk of diabetes. In addition to this, studies show the positive impact that engaging in workplace giving can have on your organisation, helping with staff engagement, staff retention and improved productivity.

Corporate sponsorships

Diabetes NSW relies heavily on corporate sponsorship, donations and in-kind support to provide vital services for people living with and at risk of diabetes.

In Australia, approximately 4.1 million Australians have diabetes or pre-diabetes and the prevalence of diabetes continues to rise at an alarming rate. Your generous donations and support enable us to carry out critical diabetes prevention and management programs, support research into diabetes and its complications and offer support to all those impacted by this chronic disease.

Whether you are looking to make a single or regular donation, support our various resources and publications or to sponsor one of our major events or projects, we would love to work with you. Perhaps you might consider assisting us in providing other in-kind support like facilities, venues and equipment or offering benefits to our growing membership base.

Our current sponsorship programs demonstrate that corporations benefit from exposure to a diverse target audience and sustained links with Diabetes NSW. We offer unique, tailor-made, targeted sponsorship opportunities that offer a strong return on investment.

Diabetes NSW works with you to gain publicity from sponsorship, donations, gifts and in-kind support. You may also be able to deduce tax benefits by offering financial support.

If you would like further information on Corporate Sponsorship, Donations or In-Kind support please enquire here. Alternatively please contact a member of the corporate partnership team on 1300 136 588 to discuss opportunities.

Skilled Volunteering

Skilled volunteering provides another avenue through which organisations can help Diabetes NSW and make a meaningful difference to those living with and at risk of diabetes.

By enabling members of your organisation to work with us, we can vastly benefit from expertise that may be otherwise unavailable or un-affordable to our charity. At the same time, it provides an excellent platform through which organisations can engage their employees.

Volunteering allows staff to actively get involved in a cause close to their heart and give back to the community. It provides a platform to build friendships, extend individuals’ network of professional acquaintances, and learn new skills and gain satisfaction and self-authorship in committing time and expertise to a worthy cause.
