Our Mission / Objective
The Fred Hollows Foundation is a development agency that is active both internationally and in Australia.
We work for a world where no one is needlessly blind, and where Indigenous Australians enjoy the same health and life expectancy as other Australians.
We are an independent, non-profit and secular organisation inspired by Professor Fred Hollows (1929-1993). Fred was an eye doctor, a skilled surgeon of international renown and a social justice activist who championed the right of all people to affordable eye care and good health.
Together with The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ we are currently working in more than 25 countries in Australia, the South Pacific, Asia, China and Africa.
Projects in Progress
Thanks to The Fred Hollows Foundation more than 2,000,000 people have had their sight restored since 1992. The operation to remove a cataract costs as little as $25.
Your gift will help double the number of patients treated in the next five years. In Australia The Foundation’s Indigenous Program focuses on eye health, nutrition and literacy.
