Our Mission / Objective

KYDS exists to reduce the incidence and severity of mental health issues amongst young people in Northern Sydney. We do this by providing easily accessed responsive and professional counselling at our centres in Lindfield and Hornsby, and by  taking important early intervention workshops and support groups into school and community settings across the region.

Our Services

KYDS provides two key services to the community:

Easily-accessed, confidential and professional one-to-one counselling and mental health support for young people 12 - 18 years of age, helping them understand and effectively manage issues such as anxiety, bullying, depression, grief, loss, relationship breakdowns, stress, self harm and suicidal thoughts and actions;

Early intervention support groups and preventative well being education programs in school and community settings, addressing situations young people are likely to encounter, and equipping them with knowledge, skills and resources to deal with those issues in a responsible, low risk manner that is more likely to lead to positive long term life outcomes.

Our Beneficiaries

KYDS woks with young people aged 12 - 18 years of age, across Northern Sydney.

Projects in Progress

Easily accessed counselling and mental health support - provided by specialist, professional staff psychologists and counsellors at our centres in Lindfield and Hornsby. Around 2,500 individual counselling sessions were provided last year, helping young people come to terms with, and understand, issues such as grief, loss, bullying, relationship breakdowns, anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts and actions.

Study Stress Workshops and Info Events for young people (and parents) embarking on their HSC journeys, ensuring young people stay healthy in body and mind for the long haul competitive event the HSC has become;

Transition to High School Programs for young people in year six, who are moving to larger, less connected high school environments, with a key focus on establishing social support and friendship frameworks and resilience;

School and Community Outreach Workshops - a range of half and full day, small group, highly interactive and memorable workshops for young people aged 12 - 18, covering key life topics such as: cyber safety and digital citizenship, respectful relationships, alcohol and other drugs, body image and self esteem. Presented on a cost recovery basis for school groups, sporting clubs, and other organisations with an interest in the well being of our youth.
