Our Mission / Objective

Our mission is to empower disadvantaged and vulnerable people in rural and regional Victoria, to elevate justice issues in public discourse, and to advocate for systemic change that upholds human rights.

Our Services

Legal Advice & Casework Program
We provide free and confidential legal advice via telephone, face-to-face appointments, outreach to regional towns and La Trobe University (Bendigo), and our Family Violence Legal Assistance Service at five regional courts. This service is provided with the assistance of law students and local volunteer lawyers.

Child Protection Legal Service
This service provides information, legal advice and casework services on child protection and related legal issues before, during and after Court. We link clients to professional supports, deliver community legal education and contribute to child protection policy discussions. This service is funded by Victoria Legal Aid.

Consumer Advocacy and Advice Program
This program helps vulnerable and disadvantaged clients with complex consumer issues and help consumers to appear at the Victorian and Civil and Administrative Tribunal. This service is funded by Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Family Relationships Centres (FRC) Program
This Program helps clients of the Bendigo FRC to navigate the Family Law dispute resolution process. We provide advice sessions and community legal education and help clients to draft and prepare Court documents and parenting plans.

Law Reform
This program is informed by our Legal Advice & Casework Program, which identifies systemic issues that result in legal disadvantage. We respond to these issues via research, law reform submissions, media work and advocacy campaigns.

Community Legal Education
We regularly respond to ad hoc requests from community organisations for plain language legal educatio. We deliver targetted community legal education relevant to our areas of practice (e.g. Child Protection), and deliver an annual series of public lectures around relevant justice issues: Talking Justice.

Palliative Care Legal Program
This program works with local solicitors and Bendigo Health social workers to provide free and confidential legal advice to people in palliative care.

Projects in Progress

Bendigo Health-Justice Partnership
This partnership embeds a Loddon Campaspe CLC lawyer within Bendigo Community Health Service. The HJP lawyer provides free legal advice to BCHS clients, secondary consultations to the BCHS staff, delivers community legal education and identifies legal and policy issues that impede client well-being.

Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre
Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre is a division of Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre. It provides free legal assistance to people living in the Goulburn Valley.

Therapeutic Justice Program
This program is delivered by Goulburn Valley CLC at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court three days a week, in partnership with Primary Care Connect. It employs a Lawyer and a Therapeutic Case Manager. The program addresses clients’ underlying complex health and personal issues by connecting them with appropriate support services and consequently placing them in a better place to deal their legal matters.

Rumbalara Health-Justice Partnership
This Goulburn Valley CLC project embeds a senior legal practitioner at Rumbalara Health so that legal advice and assistance can be provided to our local Aboriginal community in a culturally safe and supported environment.
