Our Mission / Objective

Creating a world that enables women and children to participate in society on their own terms through innovative services, advocacy and a caring community … so violence and homelessness can be eradicated.

Our Vision is: Women and children are safe, supported and empowered to achieve their highest potential: all home safely.

Our Services

McAuley provides a range of services to women and children experiencing family violence and women experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We have family violence 24/7 safe house, refuges and outreach services as well as a specialist children’s program.

We have accommodation for women experiencing homelessness or mental health illness at the 25 bed McAuley House Footscray hub.  From this hub we provide our Skills for Life program which includes Food 4 Life, social inclusion, community engagement, living skills development and more. It’s the central place from where we have community lunches each week for women who have been residents and those who currently are. McAuley House Ballarat opened in February and will accommodate seven women, both are for up to two years but the average stay is about 12 months.

Our employment service, McAuley Works, provides intensive support to women wanting to either enter the workforce for the first time or re-enter after time out.  Majority of the women we work with have experienced family violence, or are still experiencing it. This service will also be offered out of McAuley House Ballarat.

Court Support 4 Kids is a program that we developed and operates out of the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court. A specialist children’s worker attends court on the “family violence days” and offers to work with children who are at court with their mother because there’s no where else for them to be. It reduces children being re-traumatised, women are able to meet openly with lawyers and be in court where children aren’t permitted.

Our Beneficiaries

Women and children experiencing family violence.

Women without children with them, who are experiencing homelessness.

Projects in Progress

Our integrated services offer welcoming accommodation and caring support to help women and their children rebuild their lives, one step at a time.

McAuley Care provides crisis accommodation though a 24/7 safe house and compassionate support to women and their children who are escaping family violence. Also provide refuge accommodation (up to 3 months), specialist children’s program and outreach.

McAuley Works is an intensive employment program that assists women to become financially independent by securing meaningful employment.

McAuley House provides welcoming accommodation for women who are homeless, and is dedicated to supporting them on their journey towards independence and a better quality of life. We have two sites, one in Footscray and new in Ballarat.

Court Support 4 Kids involves the placement of a trained children’s worker in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court where women are seeking intervention orders against their violent partner.

Engage to Change is an innovative workplace education program that aims to change attitudes and responses to family violence.
