Our Mission / Objective

MS Research Australia aims to accelerate Australian MS research toward the prevention, better treatments and a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

MS Research Australia funds and facilitates research projects at various Australian medical institutions, which aim to establish the environmental, genetic and neurological origins of MS and encourages collaborations between Australia’s best medical researchers.

Multiple sclerosis affects more young Australians than any other neurological condition. It is a chronic and often disabling disease that randomly attacks and scars the protective insulation (myelin) that surrounds nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord.

  • Over 23,000 Australians have MS and approximately 3 million people worldwide
  • 3 out of 4 diagnosed are women
  • MS is most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 20 to 40

Projects in Progress

Each year MS Research Australia holds a grant round to select only the top MS research projects to fund. Further information about the comprehensive grant review process is available on the website www.msra.org.au.
