Our Mission / Objective

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre is a partnership between Austin Health and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. We are a comprehensive cancer centre, meaning we not only treat cancer but also carry out breakthrough research and clinical trials.

But we are more than that. Because we are a public hospital with a difference we put our patients at the heart of everything we do. This includes focusing on their minds and spirits and not just on their bodies.

We work to help patients live better with cancer and defeat it through our world class treatment, integrated research, leading clinical trials and tailored wellness programs.

Projects in Progress

All of our Wellness & Supportive Care and research programs are funded through philanthropic and community generosity.

We need to raise $2 million per annum to provide the Wellness & Supportive Care programs and an additional $3million to fund new research into cancer treatment and ultimately toward finding a cure.

The Wellness & Supportive Care programs at the ONJ Centre fall outside the core health funding provided by government, and therefore, remain the domain of philanthropic leadership and community fundraising. That is why your support is so important; as it helps us work toward achieving Olivia’s mission of providing vital wellness programs to all of our patients and the ongoing pursuit of researchers to find cancer cures.

How to help us

Wills and Bequests

By leaving a bequest to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre, you will help make a difference to the lives of so many future generations.

By choosing to add the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre as a beneficiary in your Will, you help to provide a world-class Centre with the best of medical treatment, internationally renowned research and wellness care.

The Centre will also be a valuable resource in training future generations of cancer specialists and researchers.

General Donations

The creation of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre would not have been possible without the generous support of ordinary Australians who contributed $17 million through donations, raffles and events.

But whilst those generous donations have helped build the world-class cancer centre, ongoing funds are needed to enable it to provide wellness therapies, which rely upon community support.

Donations are needed to secure and continue innovative, evidence-based wellness programs. They also help to continually update equipment to ensure the Centre remains at the forefront of cancer research, treatment and care.

You can assist in several ways, by:

  • making a one-off donation, online
  • joining Olivia’s Circle and pledging a recurring donation
  • leaving a bequest
  • giving an in memoriam donation
  • setting up a tribute fund
  • holding an fundraising event
  • asking friends to donate gifts in celebration, rather than giving you a present
  • buying raffle tickets

Volunteer with us

Volunteers at the ONJ Centre are an important part of the team supporting our patients, carers and visitors. The volunteer’s role is to enact the ONJ Centre vision statement “You Matter,” helping to make sure every patient, carer, relative and visitor feel that they are cared for. Whether it is a smile, a friendly chat, or providing information about programs and services, volunteers can easily help to ease some of the emotional stress and anxiety experienced by patients and their loved ones by providing practical and emotional support.

Volunteers at the ONJ Centre help to improve the hospital experience for patients and carers through support in roles such as:

  • Direct patient/carer support and companionship
  • Organising and running activities
  • Welcoming, providing directions and concierge services
  • Information access and support
  • Administration
  • Consumer engagement and committee membership
  • Providing professional skills i.e. hairdressing, graphic design, video editing, photography, horticulture/gardening.

Volunteers work throughout the ONJ Centre in Day Oncology, Apheresis, Radiation Oncology, on the wards, in our Palliative Care Unit, in the Wellness Centre and Information Lounge, and in waiting areas and public spaces. Volunteers work alongside and under the guidance of staff to help provide exceptional patient care.
