Our Mission / Objective
We believe public (state) high schools deserve to have thriving alumni networks whose members are easily able to give back to their old schools. Why? Because alumni can be inspirational, relatable role models for current students.
At Ourschool, we help public high schools build their alumni networks to benefit students and strengthen their school communities.
Building supportive alumni networks is a practical, meaningful way to help public high schools lift student aspirations, broaden student opportunities, and enhance equality of opportunity in school education.
For decades, private schools have built supportive alumni networks for their students and school communities. It’s about time we levelled the playing field in education by helping public high schools give their alumni the same opportunities to give back.
Our Services
Ourschool works with each partner school to help schools build their own alumni network.
We help each school do this by:
- Finding and connecting with alumni
- Inviting alumni back to school to inspire students about study and career pathways
- Creating opportunities for students via alumni providing work experience placements
- Inviting alumni to provide philanthropic support for students and their school such as setting up a student scholarship, donating to a school fundraising project, leaving a gift in their will, or volunteering to help the school in other ways.
And once we’ve helped a school embed their alumni program, we offer ongoing coaching support to our partner schools as they develop their program and grow their alumni networks.
Our Beneficiaries
More than 38,300 students have taken part in our Q&A career pathway sessions with alumni in our partner schools in Victoria over the past four years.
Students, teachers, and alumni surveyed about their involvement were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the impact of their school’s new alumni program. You can see these survey results on our website.
Many of the students we work with come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This is because public high schools educate the vast majority of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We’re a young charity, with plans to expand beyond Victoria once we have the resources to do so.
