Our Mission / Objective
To enhance the ability of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to achieve better health outcomes for people with cancer.
Our Services
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is a leading integrated cancer research, treatment and education centre globally.
In addition to its world-class research, Peter Mac offers a comprehensive range of world-class cancer services, delivered through multidisciplinary teams of health professionals. Patient care is delivered through specialist clinics based on tumour streams, together with three oncology departments – medical, surgical and radiation – and inpatient and outpatient support services. Peter Mac also provides a range of specialist cancer services including diagnostic imaging, allied health services, pharmacy and research related services such as a tissue bank.
Our Beneficiaries
More than 145,000 new cases of cancer each year in Australia. 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85.
Peter Mac is Australia’s only public hospital that is solely dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer, and is home to Australia’s largest cancer research group. Because of this, we play a critical role in the lives of cancer patients and their families, both in Australia, and around the globe.
Projects in Progress
Peter Mac is at the forefront of cancer research, and is internationally recognised for its role in accelerating the pace of discovery in cancer. As the largest cancer research site in Australia, Peter Mac plays a lead role in advancing the search for new and better ways to prevent, detect, treat, and cure cancers.
At Peter Mac, a team of more than 650 cancer researchers are embedded within a hospital environment. This means Peter Mac’s researchers and clinicians are able to work side-by-side and accelerate the translation of laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients.
Peter Mac’s researchers work across all types of cancer. Current cancer research projects include basic research, translational research and clinical trials.
