Our Mission / Objective

Pride Foundation Australia (PFA) is a national philanthropic foundation specifically focused on funding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and other (LGBTQIA+) community issues in Australia. PFA actively works to increase philanthropic support for the Australian LGBTQIA+ and allied communities through fundraising, grant giving, collaboration and commissioning projects. PFA adopts a social change model to our philanthropy and has a dedicated focus on advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ Australians, including advocating for systemic change. Specific LGBTQIA+ focus areas to date have been ageing, homelessness, disability, and asylum seekers and refugees.

Our Services

PFA is not a service organisation. Our work consists of the following activities:

  • Fundraising for our priority areas
  • Raising awareness of PFA work via
    • Stalls at LGBTI community events
    • Fundraisers
    • Launching reports from our projects
  • Grant giving
    • 2 major grant rounds per year with the Myer Foundation
    • 1 Arts fund round
    • 4 small grant rounds per year
  • Commissioning research in our priority areas
  • Collaboration with like-minded organisations including Myer Foundation, Broadtree Foundation, and the Australian Communities Foundation
  • Operating sub-funds
    • The Channel is our first sub-fund

Our Beneficiaries

We are focused on benefiting LGBTQIA+ people and allied communities in Australia by advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ Australians.

This currently includes those who are homelessness, or living with a disability, or are refugees or seeking asylum.

Projects in Progress

  1. LGBTIQA+ homelessness
  • developing national LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice guidelines for the housing and homelessness sectors, with University of Melbourne

2. Disability

  • Developing a LGBTIQA+ self-advocacy group for people living with disability, in partnership with VALID in Victoria
  • Commissioned Deakin University to conduct research on the lived experience of LGBTQIA+ people living with disability

3. Refugees and asylum seekers

  • convened a national advisory group to identify funding needs
