Our Mission / Objective

Better health through medical research.

Our Services

At QIMR Berghofer, we seek to discover, diagnose and deliver better treatments for some of the world’s deadliest diseases. We research cancer, infectious diseases, mental health and chronic disorders.

Our Beneficiaries

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading medical research Institute, renowned for our efforts in both discovery and translational (real patient setting) research. Our dedicated team of over 1000 scientists, staff and students research hundreds of diseases and conditions within cancer, mental health, infectious diseases, and chronic disorders, in more than 60 specialised laboratories.

QIMR Berghofer was established 75 years ago to research terrible infectious and tropical diseases plaguing Queensland and our near neighbours.

We have a world-class team of clinicians, virologists and immunologists who are at the forefront of infectious diseases research. Our ability to quickly respond and play a key role in the global response to COVID-19 was made possible through the generous donations of individuals who believed in the importance of investing in medical research, particularly in these concerning times.

When you choose to give to QIMR Berghofer, 100% of your donation goes directly to fund medical research. This means your gift helps our best and brightest scientists seize opportunities that will have a lasting impact for generations to come.

How to help us

Wills and Bequests

You have the power to create the future of health

By leaving a gift in your Will to QIMR Berghofer, you will help fund life-saving research that would otherwise simply would not happen. When you leave a gift to us, you join our ‘team’ too. You will share successes with us and we welcome you to come on that journey with us.

Discoveries are only possible through the generous support from individuals like you, who fully appreciate the need for the vital work we do – protecting the community against life-threatening diseases and disorders.

By choosing to support medical research through a gift in your Will, you will make a real difference not only for your loved ones, but for generations to come. The impact you will have will be truly inspiring.

Including a gift in your Will to QIMR Berghofer enables you to join a special group of people we call The Bancroft Society. As an honoured member you will receive invitations to exclusive events, access to our scientists and facilities, and you’ll be an important part of our Institute now and into the future. This is our way of thanking you.

This prestigious society is named after the Bancroft family, who pioneered medical research in Queensland from the 1860s and laid the foundations for QIMR Berghofer.

We will also acknowledge your generosity, with your permission, by including an inscription on our Bancroft Society Benefactors Wall, at the time your estate is finalised. Any request to remain anonymous will be respected.

General Donations

Unlike other not-for-profits, at QIMR Berghofer 100% of donations we receive go directly to fund our research. There are many ways you can choose to support our scientists, through giving to one of our regular appeals, through a community or corporate program, or by working directly with our fundraising team for a more impactful investment in a particular area of research. We rely on the support of generous donors to make our research possible, and we thank you for your wonderful contribution to the future of health. It would not be possible without you.
