Our Mission / Objective

Supporting extraordinary education, research and innovation outcomes at the University through giving.

RMIT Philanthropy connects our community of supporters – donors, staff, alumni, industry partners and students – with University initiatives they are passionate about to deliver strategic funding and support that advances RMIT’s ambitions.

The University was established through a £5,000 gift from Francis Ormond and the generosity of working Melburnians passionate about an institution created just for them. Since then, community generosity has supported our evolution into one of Australia’s oldest, largest and most trusted tertiary institutions.

The Philanthropy team is committed to maintaining this legacy and growing donor support for extraordinary RMIT education, research and innovation initiatives that change lives and shape the world.

Projects in Progress

Equity Scholarships

Donor support empowers a diverse range of students to receive the transformational education they need to succeed in their future careers and shape what’s next.

The RMIT scholarship program is unique in its focus on equity, assessing the needs of students experiencing financial and educational disadvantage over solely considering their academic merit to ensure a diverse range of students receive a quality education.

RMIT FactLab

Donations to RMIT FactLab will help fight the spread of fake news and misinformation, debunking the myths surrounding our community’s most pressing issues.

RMIT FactLab is Australia’s first research and teaching hub entirely dedicated to fighting misinformation and will make sense of the nonsense, debunk the fake news and call out the spin.

The Big Anxiety

Donations to The Big Anxiety will help RMIT launch multi-year research and community engagement projects aimed at developing and implementing novel tools, technologies and experiences promoting mental wellbeing and recovery.

Diversity in STEMM

RMIT is a world-leader in STEM, coupling our technical college history and expertise in fields like Engineering and Computer Science with our industry-connected curriculum to prepare students for success in the workplace.

RMIT is dedicated to advancing gender equality in STEM and has been recognised for its efforts with an Athena SWAN Bronze award, along with the WEGA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation for 12 years running.
