Our Mission / Objective
The importance of having more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in academia, the professions and the business world must not be underestimated. Our objective is assist Indigenous students to undertake the programs that will enable them to be the role models and mentors of other Indigenous undergraduates and postgraduates so key to success.
Our Services
In 1984, Roberta Sykes graduated from Harvard as the first black Australian to graduate from an American university.
Today, The Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to undertake postgraduate study abroad with a suite of scholarship and bursary opportunities.
The Roberta Sykes Scholarships provide supplementary financial assistance to Indigenous postgraduate students who wish to undertake studies at overseas universities.
The Roberta Sykes Harvard Club Scholarships provides funding to Indigenous postgraduate students who wish to undertake study at Harvard University.
The Roberta Sykes Fellowship provides Indigenous postgraduate students enrolled at Australian universities with partial funding to undertake overseas research at recognised universities as part of their degree.
The Roberta Sykes Bursaries provides partial funding for Indigenous Australians to undertake short executive education courses at recognised overseas academic institutions.
Our Beneficiaries
The Roberta Sykes Scholarships and Bursaries are provided to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, to the benefit of all Australians.
