Our Mission / Objective

The Victorian Pride Centre is Australia’s first LGBTIQ Centre – indeed the first in South East Asia.

In 2016, members of Australia’s sex, sexuality and gender diverse communities came together to discuss their vision for a safe, equal and inclusive future for all. A promise was made to create Australia’s first purpose-built LGBTIQ Pride Centre, a multipurpose building to house services and facilities that will serve LGBTIQ communities for decades to come.

Located in Fitzroy Street, St Kilda in Melbourne the seven-storey building will be a safe, permanent home and meeting space for LGBTIQ organisations large and small.

It will be a vibrant and exciting place to visit, with LGBTIQ organisations offering direct services to the community, a theatre and gallery, food and drink venues, beautiful terraces, balconies and courtyards – some with city and sea views.

The Victorian Pride Centre will become the most loved, well known, well-resourced and visited home for LGBTIQ communities and their allies in Australia.

Our Services

The Pride Centre will provide housing stability and affordability to LGBTIQ organisations. Tenants of the Pride Centre currently include Minus 18, Thorne Harbour Health, Switchboard Victoria, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Trans Gender Victoria, the Monash Gender Clinic, the Australian Gay and Lesbian Archives (ALGA), JOY 94.9 FM and the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council (AGMC).

Members of the LGBTIQ community will be able to access direct services and referrals at the Pride Centre as well as use it as a base for their community activities.

The Pride Centre will be the site of cultural and social activities and become a major destination for both Australian and overseas visitors.

Our Beneficiaries

The Pride Centre will build upon LGBTIQ activism and progress, support LGBTIQ advocacy to eliminate inequality and discrimination and create the next chapter in LGBTIQ pride. The Victorian Pride Centre is committed to supporting equality, diversity and inclusion for all and recognises that only together can we build pride in community.

Why are we building Pride?

  • Approximately 11% of the population are of diverse sexual orientation, sex or gender identity.
  • Despite significant legislative and social reforms of the past decades, the LBGTIQ community continues to experience varying levels of discrimination, stigma and marginalisation.
  • 6 in 10 LGBTIQ people experience homophobic, transphobic verbal abuse.
  • 42% of LGBTIQ people hide their identities at social and community events.
  • The LGBTIQ community has called for a place they can call home.

Projects in Progress

Currently (August 2020) we are building the Victorian Pride Centre. This $50 million project is a seven storey building that will house offices, meeting spaces that will be bookable by the public, a theatre/multipurpose hub for a wide diversity of activities from performances to conferences to yoga, a gallery, cafe, bars and rooftop terrace with, we hope!, a community garden. We are building a large scale community hub, the first of its kind in South East Asia.

How to help us

Wills and Bequests

To leave a Gift to the Victorian Pride Centre in your Will is one of the most important ways you can support the Pride Centre to operate for the LGBTIQ Community, now and into the future.

If you would like to include the Pride Centre in your Will and would like to discuss the recommended wording, or wish to discuss the matter in general, please email us on bequests@pridecentre.org.au. Please let us know if you have added the Victorian Pride Centre to your Will.

If you are writing your own Will the Victorian Pride Centre recommends the following wording for general bequests as a guide:

“I give to the Victorian Pride Centre, ABN 68 615 432 838 the sum of $……………. / or percentage / or the whole/rest and residue of my estate (complete as appropriate) for its General Purposes. The receipt of the Victorian Pride Centre Treasurer or other officer shall be sufficient discharge to my Executor for the Bequest”

Please note, while the Victorian Pride Centre cannot offer legal advice, we can answer your questions about the good a gift in your Will to the Victorian Pride Centre would achieve. Please email us on bequests@pridecentre.org.au or call our Pride Giving Adviser on 0413 895 527.

General Donations

The Pride Centre would not be possible without community support from both members of the LGBTQ community and wider community members!

We have donation programs for all levels of financial supporters, all support is welcome!

Our programs include: our affordable Pride Club at $50/20 a year, the Cornerstone Supporter at $100/year and the Patron Program from $2000 to $10,000 a year.

We also (of course!) accept one off donations and regular donations at or Donate page.

You can support the Pride Centre in the lead up to opening late 2020 by supporting the purchase of vital items and infrastructure which will make the Centre fully operational to community members. At our Pride Registry you can donate towards or purchase such as items as indoor plants, toasters, microphones or create a Giving Circle for larger items such as furniture for co-working spaces and landscaping for the courtyard and terraces. See you name on a bike rack or theatre seat. See your friendship or work group’s name on a seating booth or electric bike and scooter charge point!

All donors will be recognised on our website. Donations of $5,000 and over will be acknowledged on our Honour Board within the Pride Centre. Where an item of $3000 and above has been supported fully by you or your group you will be recognised in a plaque on or near the item.
