Our Mission / Objective

Wesley Mission Queensland has been caring for the community for more than 100 years. Since our beginnings in 1907 in the roots of the Albert Street Methodist church (now the Uniting Church) in Brisbane, we have been living our mission by supporting people on the margins of society.

In all that we do, we strive to empower the people we work with through our compassion, our commitment to justice and our desire to create an inclusive society for all.

In 2016, we changed our name from Wesley Mission Brisbane to Wesley Mission Queensland. The change is small but significant. Just like the state we call home, we reach far and wide and we are made up of people from all walks of life; by transitioning to a name that better signifies our geographical reach, we can more accurately reflect the community in which we work and our neighbours who we support.

Vision
A compassionate, just and inclusive society for all.

Mission
We walk alongside people in need, offering care and compassion and promoting choice, independence and community wellbeing.

Values
Integrity, Respect, Empowerment, Hope, Justice, Compassion, Innovation

How to help us

Wills and Bequests

Your gift will make a difference

The Wesley Mission Queensland (formerly Wesley Mission Brisbane) story is one of compassion, hope and opportunity.

It is also a story of caring for those on the margins of our society and a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to have the best in life. We are here for families, young people at-risk, people living with disability and those who have nowhere else to turn.

Our work has made a significant difference over the decades, but we know there is still much to be done to help those less fortunate.

That is why we would like to extend you an invitation to consider leaving a gift (also known as a bequest) to Wesley Mission Queensland in your Will.

Every gift makes a difference and contributes to bringing change. Through careful thought and consideration, you have an opportunity to leave a legacy that will reflect your personal values and echo across the ages.

A bequest may involve:

  • Monetary gifts
  • A percentage of an estate
  • Assets – property, work of art, shares, etc
  • Residuary of an estate – what is left after other gifts and costs have been deducted

There are numerous ways that your gift will help and we would be happy to speak with you about this in more detail if you wish. All discussions are confidential.

A bequest to Wesley Mission Queensland may also be an opportunity to associate your name with one of our many programs and services, as per previous gifts given by Mr & Mrs Sam & Lucy Cooper (Cooper House Aged Care Community), Mr George Marchant (Little Marchants Child Care Centre) and the Sinnamon and Uhl Families (Sinnamon Village, Uhl Hall).

General Donations

Our work reaches across all sections of the community, creating a compassionate, just and inclusive society for all. In order to continue our programs and services we rely heavily on private donations from people like you. For more information on how your donation can help call (07) 3621 4679 or visit www.wmb.org.au/donate

Other support

We are committed to forging mutually beneficial relationships with members of the corporate sector who share our passion to make positive and lasting differences in our community.

There are several ways that you can get involved through corporate engagement, including:

Corporate sponsorship

With more than 60 community programs spread across South East Queensland, there are countless opportunities to find a program that aligns with your workplace values.

Corporate sponsorship can help you fulfil your corporate social responsibility goals, raise the profile of your organisation and have a positive impact on the lives of the people in your community.

Ask us about our Red Bag Appeal, our Community Meal or our Spirit of Queensland Gala Dinner.

Partnerships

A partnership with us will allow your company to make life-long changes to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Most of our partnerships have at least two of the following elements

  • Staff fundraising activities
  • Workplace giving
  • Pro bono
  • Event or program sponsorship
  • Gifts in kind
  • Skilled volunteering
  • Unskilled volunteering

If your company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program has a particular focus, we are very happy to match you with a program which aligns with that focus.

Contact us to find out what the next steps might look like.

Corporate volunteering

Corporate volunteers play a vital role in helping us do the work we do. From a garden makeover to supporting people with disabilities on a day out, as a volunteer you can bring a smile to the face of those who need it most.

Current Corporate Volunteering opportunities can be found at our Good Company page. Please check these listings to review and register your interest in one of our current opportunities.

Host an event or join one of ours

Organising an event to fundraise for our organisation can be a fun and rewarding endeavour. You may like to host a breakfast or high-tea, run the Bridge to Brisbane or organise your own charity Golf Day. Whatever your event, we would love to assist and equip you with the right tools so together we can make it a success and help those less fortunate.

Alternatively, embrace the champion within and sign up to one of Wesley Mission Queensland’s Challenge Central events.

Workplace giving

Workplace Giving is a simple way to enhance your company’s involvement in the community and a powerful way to demonstrate corporate social responsibility to causes employees care deeply about.

What does $5 a week mean to you? Maybe a coffee or a muffin?

For the people we work with, $5 can contribute to an emergency food parcel, school clothes for low income families or counselling for someone doing it tough.

Small gifts are a dependable funding source for the vital programs and services we run.

Deductible donations made through Workplace Giving can help:

  • Create a more connected workplace
  • Aid in retention and recruitment of staff
  • Increase your company’s charitable giving with little effort or cost
  • Enhance your company’s corporate social responsibility
  • Achieve monitoring of charitable giving more easily

If your company is looking to establish a Workplace Giving program, speak to our friends at Karma Currency or Good to Give. They are currently helping thousands of businesses and people every week give small gifts each week to charities close to their heart.
