The Transitions Film Festival returns to Melbourne this February with another enthralling line-up of cutting-edge documentaries about the existential challenges, mega-trends, game-changing technologies and creative visions that will shape our collective future.
The Festival focuses on sharing inspirational stories about the solutions to society's greatest challenges and showcases the local heroes and change-makers who are building a better world.
The Festival opens with The Great Green Wall, an epic saga from Jared P. Scott, Director of ‘The Age of Consequences’ and Fernando Meirelles (Producer of ‘City of God’ and ‘The Constant Gardener’), which follows Malian musician-activist Inna Modja on a life-altering journey documenting Africa's 'Great Green Wall', an ambitious project to create a 8000km wall of trees to prevent desertification. The Festival will close with Sanctuary, a powerful documentary which follows Javier Bardem, his brother, and leaders of Greenpeace as they embark on an epic adventure to create the world's largest marine sanctuary in the Antarctic Ocean.
Other highlights include the world premiere of Shannon Harvey's My Year of Living Mindfully, the Australian premiere of Tribeca Film Festival award-winner I Am Human, and Convoy, a documentary following Bob Brown’s quest, through an incredible road trip, to prevent the development of one of the world’s most harmful coal mines.
Encompassing a vast range of mind-expanding themes including: climate change, the future of food, big data, artificial intelligence, startups and innovation, youth activism and virtual reality, this year’s Festival will alter the way you look at the world.
With a stellar line-up of powerful films and inspirational guest speakers, the Festival will let you see the change you want to be in the world.
Transitions Film Festival runs from the 20th of February until the 6th of March at Cinema Nova and venues across Melbourne.
