Youth Mental Health First Aid

This 2-day workshop provides strategies to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or are in a mental health crisis.

Learn the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

This workshop is evidence-based and is authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and is conducted by MHFA accredited instructors.

Learning objectives

Developing mental health problems covered include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Substance misuse
  • Eating disorders

Mental health crisis situations covered include:

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called self-harm)
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Severe effects of alcohol and drugs
  • Aggressive behaviours
