Details

UNIFGC601B – Plan a Family Group Conference
UNIFGC602B – Identify Strengths within family and agency systems
UNIFGC603B – Facilitate and review a Family Group Conference

This 4-day workshop is designed to provide participants with the values, theoretical framework, knowledge, skills and practical experience to identify appropriate referrals for Family Group Conferencing (FGC), prepare families and professionals for FGC and organise and facilitate FGC and review meetings.

Family Group Conferencing (FGC) is an alternative dispute resolution model used in the child protection system. It allows families with children at risk of abuse or neglect or who need further support to participate fully in decision making about their children. FGC has been an effective model in NSW since 1996.

Learning objectives
•Investigate the history and development of FGC and its role in child protection
•Understand the role of FGC in the case management of children 0 to18 years
•Explore the current legislation relevant to FGC
•Develop strategies for the effective facilitation of FGC
•Discover strategies to manage issues that can arise in the preparation or facilitation of FGC
•Learn ways to include the voices of children and young people in child protection matters
