The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) and the Northern Territory Chronic Disease Network (CDN) are jointly holding the PHAA 44th Annual Conference and the 20th Chronic Disease Network Conference from Sunday 18 to Wednesday 21 September 2016 at the Alice Springs Convention Centre.

The Conference theme is based around the World Federation of Public Health Associations Global Charter for the Public’s Health, with a focus on services proposed in the charter of protection, prevention, promotion.

Increasing public health awareness is required to assist in reducing the impact of chronic conditions through population health approaches in order to have an impact on individual’s health outcomes. Population health is directly affected by health policies, funding, and service models.
The conference will present the fields of both public health and chronic conditions. The theme will be supported by a number of complementary streams, each with a strong focus on building capacities for improving health outcomes with a focus on  contemporary health initiatives, health policy, research, models of care, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, leadership, workforce, telehealth, tools/applications and resources.

Conference Objectives

  • Create an environment for knowledge sharing, collaboration and relationship building;
  • Highlight the activities of the PHAA and CDN and encourage delegates to work together to achieve better health outcomes for Australian’s;
  • Provide a high quality and up to date conference program through keynote speakers and call for abstracts;
  • Provide conference delegates with new and innovative ideas that can be applied to local settings and systems to help create and improve health systems for local communities.

Target Audience

The conference will aim to facilitate conversations on improving effectiveness and efficiencies through knowledge sharing and relationship building. The program must consider the needs and interests of the public health and chronic disease audience to ensure attraction and participation to the conference.

The target audience will be stakeholders working or involved with Public Health and Chronic Disease, including but not limited to:

  • Health policy makers at the Commonwealth, State and local levels;
  • Program managers;
  • Providers from both the public and private sectors;
  • Health practitioners;
  • Researchers and academics;
  • Practitioners;
  • Students;
  • National and international speakers who are providing presentations; and
  • Interested community groups and individuals.
