Details

This 1-day workshop provides an introduction to the evidence-based strategies for addressing and preventing relapse of addictive and other behavioural problems.

Although focused on the principles related to substance abuse, the strategies presented also apply well to other types of behavioural and cognitive changes. This workshop provides a variety of tools to assess risks, develop individually tailored plans, and implement skills for a more successful future.

Learning objectives
•Identify the predictors of relapse
•Learn how to assess high risk situations and identify triggers
•Explore how to use cognitive and behavioural coping skills for responding to triggers
•Learn how to challenge their ‘positive outcome expectancies’ for using drugs and alcohol as well as recognising ‘apparent irrelevant decisions’ affecting relapse
•Discover how to help manage lapses and prevent ‘goal violation effect’
•Develop plans for life-style balance and self-care; as well as developing and using tools for self-control
