Join this 60-minute panel for an honest and open discussion about mergers and acquisitions and learn about the good, the bad, and what no one ever tells you from those who’ve been through it.

The global pandemic has had a vast impact on industries right around the world; and the community sector in Australia has been no different. While JobKeeper has been a welcome relief for many organisations in our sector, the news of the scheme ending has forced many organisations to reimagine what the future looks like.

Even organisations that have never considered operating differently in the past are now exploring their options, including mergers, acquisitions and other strategic alliances. If done properly, mergers can be a compelling option for organisations. However, mergers and acquisitions come with risk so it’s important to understand how to do it well.

In this expert panel discussion, Paul Ronalds (Save the Children), Jayne Meyer Tucker (Good Beginnings) and Malcolm Garrow (Social Ventures Australia) will discuss their merger journeys: the good, the bad – and the things they wish someone had told them. They’ll also discuss their recommendations for community organisations for survival and growth, post-JobKeeper – and post pandemic.

Topics covered:

  • When is the right time to think about a merger?
  • How do you find who you might be able to do a merger with?
  • What do you need to think about when assessing what you’ve got to offer an organisation – and what they might want from you?
  • What does a merger process look like? What are the risks and advantages?
  • The things that no one ever tells you about a merger

Meet the panellists:

Paul Ronalds, CEO – Save the Children

Dr Jayne Meyer Tucker, Former CEO – Good Beginnings

Malcolm Garrow, Executive Director, Social Ventures Australia

Meet your moderator:

Wendy Williams, Pro Bono News editor

What can I expect to gain from the panel discussion?

You can expect to come away with practical tips to make the merger and acquisition process more manageable and streamlined, how to structure your merger, how to undertake due diligence, as well as stakeholder management and organisational culture.
