Project #1: The Nappy Collective
Research shows that 250,000 Australian children currently do not have access to the nappies they need to stay clean and healthy. The Nappy Collective is a charity that rescues leftover unused disposable nappies and redistributes these to families and children in need. The Nappy Collective provides a platform for the community to donate leftover nappies, reduce unnecessary waste and support families who need it most. Meet the presenter: Lani Masuku, CEO, The Nappy Collective
Lani has had over 10 years’ experience in the not-for-profit space, working for organisations including RSPCA and Plan International. She is an experienced social entrepreneur and passionate about solving issues experienced by marginalised women.
Project #2: Anika Legal
Each year, 490,000 Australians don’t get the legal help they need due to an overburdened legal system. At the same time, only 0.3% of Australians qualify for legal aid. This means that people with a legal problem who don’t fall into that 0.3% but can’t afford a lawyer, aren’t protected by the justice system. Anika Legal seeks to solve this social inequality by providing an online platform that gives free legal advice to vulnerable members of the community. It connects people who need legal help with law students enrolled at partner universities, who are supervised by experienced lawyers to provide high quality, free advice. Anika Legal will be pitching for funding to expand its team so it can continue to provide free legal advice to people in need and scale its impact. Find out more: anikalegal.com
Meet the presenter: Noel Lim, Co-founder & CEO, Anika Legal
Noel is passionate about having a positive social impact, with a particular interest in using technology to create sustainable and scalable solutions to improve lives. He has a background in law and has also worked in the education technology sector as an operations manager.
Project #3: One Girl
Over 130 million girls worldwide are denied the right to go to school. Amongst its various initiatives to tackle this issue and provide greater access to education for girls, One Girl has launched its ‘Business Brains’ program. The three-year program provides small grants and business training to young women in rural Uganda to help them to kick-start their own businesses and gain economic independence. One Girl will be pitching for funding to support a further 78 young Ugandan women in their vocational and life skills training through ‘Business Brains.’ Find out more: onegirl.org.au
Meet the presenter: Sarah Ireland, CEO, One Girl
Sarah has over 10 years’ experience in humanitarian outreach and international aid. She has led emergency response teams in disasters around the world, and lobbied both Australian and overseas governments to increase foreign aid budgets and the intake of refugees, and to prioritise women and girls in their aid programs.
