Ideally we are looking for someone who has had personal experience of mental illness, with the willingness to share their story and journey to recovery. An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced, compassionate and open Peer Worker to join our team at cohealth.
As a Peer Worker within the Community Mental Health area, you’ll be responsible for providing community mental health client, support services, in partnership with clients, carers and the community, to maximise health, wellbeing and social inclusion for those living with a mental illness.
This role is pivotal in assisting people to participate in initiatives, programs and build capacity for people to achieve their identified goals and be independent.
Responsibilities will include;
- Orientation of new clients to cohealth Community Mental Health.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with all key stakeholders including clinical community linkages and networks.
- Working collaboratively with clients and the team in identifying needs, aspirations and goals of client.
- Participating in the design, development and facilitation of self-management and social groups
- Working effectively with outcome measures and embedding work practices that meet accountability and reporting requirements.
This position would be ideally suited to someone who has:
- Lived experience of mental illness and the recovery process;
- An understanding of the key issues affecting people with multiple and complex needs including mental illness, housing insecurity, health and safety issues and social connection;
- A sound understanding and the ability to work with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, different genders and ages
- Holds a tertiary qualification in a relevant sector and/or commensurate experience in a related area;
- Is analytical thinking and problem solving skills and crisis intervention;
- Is professional and respectful, with the ability to work as part of a team and autonomously; and
- Has the appropriate IT skills and experience with electronic clientmanagement systems.

This position will be paid under the Community Health Centre (Stand Alone Services) Social and Community Service Employees Multi Enterprise Agreement 2013 – 2015, Social worker, Class 1
