The UCA’s expansive scope of operations includes its Congregations, Presbyteries, community service Agencies, Independent housing organisation Age Well, an ethical Investment Fund, numerous Schools and Colleges, Camp sites, Pastoral Centres, Aboriginal Cultural Hubs, Centre of Theological Ministries and the Synod Office at 130 Little Collins Street.

The Legal Services Unit consists of three portfolio teams: Property, Trusts and Ethnical Standards. This in-house and high performing team provide general legal advice and support including procurement and related probity issues, intellectual property, corporations’ law, insurance and indemnities, insolvency issues and bequest administration

The role

The Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, is seeking a talented Legal Officer who has Integrity and stewardship at their core. This exciting, complex and multi-faceted role will ensure the breadth and depth of your experience grows to new heights.

We are offering a Legal role you will be proud to be in as you are entrusted to navigate and represent the advice and opinions of one of the largest community services provider outside of government.

Your portfolio includes:
•Legal matters arising from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse the management of risk, the safety of children and other vulnerable groups within the life of the Church.
•Advising on a wide spectrum of property law matters with a view to managing risk and efficient client services
•Advising on the significant portfolio of trusts held for the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania

The ideal candidate will be fully conversant with regulations and legislation pertaining to property and ethical standards in Victoria and Tasmania and familiarity with the conduct of litigation.

To be successful in this role the person will be able to combine their Commercial capabilities, admission to practise as an Australian Legal Practitioner with a Pastoral focus ensuring that the UCA values of respect, social justice and wise stewardship underpin all decision making processes.
