About the role

Volunteer West is a small, dynamic not-for-profit organisation supporting and enabling volunteering in the municipalities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Working with individuals and organisations, Volunteer West:
• Promotes volunteering
• Matches individuals with volunteer opportunities
• Delivers training to community groups and organisations
• Offers professional development to volunteer managers / coordinators
• Advocates for a strong volunteer sector.

An opportunity exists to lead Volunteer West as General Manager from our office in Altona. Reporting to a Committee of Management, the General Manager has overall responsibility for the daily operations of the organisation and the implementation of the organisation’s strategic direction.

Supported by a small team of staff and volunteers, the position of General Manager is a rewarding role for those with experience in the volunteer and/or wider not-for-profit sector. In addition to building on existing programs and relationships, the General Manager will have scope to improve and develop the organisation’s services to support volunteering in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The focus of the role will be:
• Managing the development and operation of Volunteer West core services, including:
o Volunteer referral services
o Community training programs
o Professional development initiatives
o Communications and marketing
• Ensuring programs are delivered to the highest of standards and in accordance with relevant agreements, policies and legislation.
• Implementing the strategic and operational plans of the organisation.
• Managing the daily operations of the staff and volunteer team.
• Developing programs and relationships to ensure the ongoing support of funding agencies and stakeholders.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Social and Community Services Level 6 (approximately $42,500 p.a. for 22.8 hours per week, plus superannuation).
