Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation is a large and complex regional community development organisation providing services to homelands in the Maningrida region, administering some 50 grants and managing a suite of businesses and programs including: Housing, Civil Works, Essential Services, Women’s Centre, Djelk Rangers, Barlmarrk Supermarket, Fuel Supplies, Mechanical Workshops, Arts and Culture/Djomi Museum, Good Food Kitchen, Outdoor Supplies, Night Patrol, Employment Services and Money Management Services.

BAC’s mission is to improve the lifestyle of people on homelands by caring for country, preserving language and culture through the delivery of services to improve housing, health, education and roads.

We have an opportunity for an experienced leader to join our organisation in the role of General Manager – Community Services. This position is responsible for high-level leadership in the delivery of community service programs including Night Patrol, Remote School Attendance Strategy, Money Management and the Community Development Program. It operates under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role includes:

  • Using a project management approach to drive the implementation, monitoring and reporting of programs and projects in a complex and culturally sensitive work environment with challenging priorities and programs;
  • Fostering strong partnerships and collaborations with local, Australian and NT government stakeholders;
  • Taking a lead role in fostering and developing a work environment that is safe and continually improves its employment and professional development practices, cultural and diversity framework as well as policies and systems;
  • Managing budgets, finance and reporting obligations.

 

We are looking for a person with demonstrated experience at a senior executive level, working in a culturally inclusive workplace using the principles and practices of cultural competence and providing responsive social services to community. You have the ability to formulate strategic direction and deliver and report on operational services and programs. You will also be able to engage and form strong relationships with people on the ground in order to create effective partnerships.

You have significant experience with program delivery in social services areas including homelessness, mental health, family violence, disability, drug and alcohol problems and criminal activity, and are able to network, collaborate and foster strong partnerships with these services. Experience living and or working in remote communities would be highly regarded.
