About the role
Reporting through to the relevant Senior Director Commercial Engagement, the ADCE will focus on the technical and business analysis of innovative technologies for their commercial potential. The ADCE will assist Directors and Senior Directors within their respective team to identify, evaluate, prioritise and promote early stage innovative technologies which have the potential to create commercially valuable intellectual property solutions for industry problems.
UniQuest commercialises innovative research of The University of Queensland (UQ) through 4 channels to market: (1) engineering, materials and ICT, (2) health, (3) science and (4) social enterprise. The incumbent will have a dominant focus in one of the channels to market and is expected to be able to work across the channels if required, for example, for cross-disciplinary projects.
Responsibilities:
In order to support intellectual property protection and commercialisation strategies you will be responsible for:
Searching the literature and patent databases, mapping the competitive landscape, identifying potential commercial partners and relevant historical commercial deals
Completing preliminary due diligence reports (PDDs) for new invention disclosures
Undertaking technical due diligence on innovative technologies including an assessment of the technical, market and commercial potentials
Raising awareness of research staff to identify, protect and manage the University’s intellectual capital and realise new business opportunities
Developing partnerships with UQ researchers to seek and qualify invention disclosure with commercial potential
Building and maintain strong relationship with relevant people and organisations to enable the realisation of research commercialisation opportunities
Supporting the patenting of innovative technologies
Calculating valuations for technologies to support investment applications
To be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Tertiary qualifications in a field relevant to the above identified technical expertise and industry knowledge
Analytical approach to problem solving demonstrating where possible business analysis skills
If possible, technology commercialisation such as evaluating technologies from technical, financial, competitor and market perspectives
Supporting the conversion of academic science into commercial solutions for industry problems through various communication and marketing mediums
Intellectual property principles and procedures
Applying communication skills to reach successful outcomes in written and verbal modes including presentations
Managing your workload related to a complex and challenging portfolio of projects
