About the role

The Opportunity

One Disease is a privately funded non-profit organisation that has a ground-breaking vision: to systematically target and eliminate preventable disease from remote Indigenous communities in Australia.

Our first initiative is to eliminate Crusted Scabies as a public health issue in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory by 2019 and across Australia by 2022. Crusted Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease that affects 1 in 409 people in the Top End of the Northern Territory. People afflicted with this chronic condition can suffer from a 50% mortality rate over 5 years, if left untreated, social exclusion and many other debilitating health effects. We support these people and their families through a program focused on strong local partnerships, clinical expertise, education and building community capacity. Our pilot program was developed in partnership with a former MSF (Doctors Without Borders) professional.

We believe that no Australian should die of a preventable disease. Eliminating disease will create a stronger partnership with Indigenous Australians and begin to heal a much older wound.

Main purpose of the role

To write philanthropic grant submissions in support of our elimination campaign and to provide high level prospect research for major gifts and grants from charitable trusts and foundations. You are responsible for raising funds for our “Healthy Skin Mob” who implement the Healthy Skin Program across the top end of Australia.

This role will report directly to the Development Director. There is also a Marketing and Development Coordinator within the team to provide support, when needed. You will be joining an organisation where you can implement change and develop as you contribute to the continued growth of the organisation.

Key Functions

Your responsibilities include:

• Providing high level prospect research to ensure a coordinated and donor-centric approach for the purposes of major gift fundraising.

• Writing grant submissions that align with One Disease’s needs and projects to assist in raising funds from philanthropic trusts and foundations and private ancillary funds (PAFs).

• Meeting with trusts and foundations in order to create and develop funding partnerships.

• Working with the Marketing and Development Coordinator to ensure the Trusts and Foundations grant calendar and other donor databases are updated and relevant.

• Working with the One Disease program and development teams to stay informed and updated about their project needs in relation to forthcoming grant opportunities for funding.

• To notify relevant One Disease team members about forthcoming funding opportunities.
• To assist the Development Director in achieving financial targets in the area of Trusts and Foundations (including PAFs).

We’re a small and dynamic team and whilst these are your key responsibilities we all pitch in and help each other when needed.
