About the role

OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and passionate individual to join Human Rights Arts & Film Festival (HRAFF)’s close team in the lead up to our 10th Anniversary (2017) in the new role of CineSeeds Project Coordinator. You will report to the HRAFF board and the CineSeeds Advisory Committee, to develop, implement and manage HRAFFs CineSeeds youth leadership program. HRAFF’s CineSeeds Project Coordinator will also work closely with the other members of HRAFF’s small team, including staff and advisory committees responsible for related program delivery and budgets.

ABOUT HRAFF

The Human Rights Arts & Film Festival (HRAFF) is an independent, non-partisan organisation that uses film, art, music and conversation to educate, inspire and inform people on human rights.

HRAFF engages audiences with social justice and human rights issues via an annual festival and year-round through our CineSeeds outreach program. In 2017, HRAFF will celebrate its 10th anniversary. HRAFF is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Item 1. Further information is at: www.hraff.org.au

ABOUT CINESEEDS

  • A youth leadership platform developed to build understanding and awareness of human rights – using film and arts to inform, educate and inspire discussion and debate, while not taking any positions on issues
  • This platform has emerged from the amalgamation of the volunteer-run CineSeeds pilot (2013-16) and HRAFF’s former schools and community outreach program
  • Dedicated to sprouting new young talent and leadership in film and human rights. It actively includes approximately 120 young ambassadors each year, aged 5 – 18 years old, to promote human rights awareness and education within their own classrooms and school assemblies.
  • Takes the most enlightening and inspirational films from our Festival and make them available for screenings in schools and community groups
  • Provides a platform for children and young people to build an understand and awareness of human rights issues that affect young people in Australia today, including the right to a basic education, being treated equally, thinking what you like, and practising any religion, as well as an adequate standard of living including food, clothing and housing.
  • Provides an outlet for young people to explore what human rights means, in an age appropriate way – including “hot spot” issues like bullying (including cyber bullying), child rights, gender equality, poverty, freedom of speech, discrimination, racism, indigenous issues and youth homelessness
  • Provide lesson plans and speakers as required with each session.

Core to the CineSeeds program is a multi-generational approach to inspiring and engaging individuals on human rights. It is focused on encouraging and mentoring new emerging young leaders and engaging communities and corporates in a deeper exploration of social justice causes. By developing youth leadership, we are building families, siblings, older generations and future generations that will take a more compassionate approach to social justice issues.

The CineSeeds Coordinator, in collaboration with the HRAFF team, will be responsible for developing the Victorian model to a self-sustaining level within 12 months, with a view to a staged, sustainable roll out of the national expansion over 2018-19.
