Positive Women Victoria (PWV) is a community based organisation funded by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. It has supported women living with HIV for over 25 years. PWV recognises the impact that gender has on the way women experience HIV and provides health promotion, peer support and advocacy.

Role summary

You will work with the PWV team and partner organisations to design and deliver dynamic, innovative, health promotion activities. These will be targeted to support HIV positive women to reduce their isolation, enhance their community engagement skills and enable them to reach higher levels of well-being. Your key responsibilities will include

  • leading production of PWV’s communications materials including web content, social media campaigns, newsletters and promotional materials;
  • contributing to policy submissions, position statements and relevant publications;
  • representing PWV at high-profile forums, conferences and networking events;
  • developing and maintaining relationships with Victorian and national stakeholders across the women’s health, sexual health, HIV/AIDS and government sectors; and
  • providing support via effective, front-line contact with women living with HIV.

 

Experience and skills required

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills will be essential to your success in the role. As part of a small and close-knit team, you will need to be self-managing, highly organised and flexible. Empathy and a ‘can do’ attitude will be essential.

Key criteria include

  • a degree in communications, public health, health promotion, community development or similar;
  • a sound understanding of gender-based health promotion and a clear understanding of and empathy for the lived experience of women with HIV;
  • strong cultural awareness ;
  • excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Internet Explorer (or equivalent);
  • awareness of social media analytics and tools (HootSuite and MailChimp)
  • experience contributing to, implementing and measuring the impact of communications/health promotion plans; and
  • a current Victorian driver’s licence.
