About the role

The role of Individual Advocate is offered as a full time position. Working with individuals to ensure fair and equitable access to services in the community, including Government departments and the justice system. This is a challenging role that requires someone with demonstrated knowledge and experience in the practice of advocacy. A very high level of written and verbal communication skills will be required, as will an understanding of the relevant legislative framework that you will be working within. The successful candidate will be required to undertake some community development work, to promote the rights and responsibilities of individuals with a disability, and to raise awareness in the community of the role of an advocate. Advocates provide strategies to individuals to support them to advocate on their own behalf whenever possible, and work towards maintaining independence in the community. An established network and/or knowledge of local services within the sector would be beneficial. Supporting clients to achieve their goals, you will be innovative in your approach and not be concerned when facing challenging situations.To be considered for this position you must demonstrate an excellent understanding of the role. Attendance at Central Coast courts, tribunals and hearings, will be required. Advocates will ideally have an understanding of how these operate. A National Police Check and Working with Children Check will be required prior to employment.
