About the role

  • Join Australia’s largest NFP animal hospital nurturing the human-animal bond
  • Lead the organisation’s media relations, stakeholder engagement and internal communications
  • 0.8 FTE, Flexible hours

 

The Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising & Communications and working closely with the Senior Communications Specialist as part of the Fundraising and Communications team you will be responsible for raising the public profile of the organisation, managing proactive and reactive media as well as managing stakeholder communications. You will also lead the development

and implementation of a new internal communications strategy.

 

Specifically you will:

 

  • Develop, execute and evaluate communications and stakeholder relations strategies
  • Identify and manage proactive/reactive media opportunities and pitch stories to media outlets
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with journalists, overseeing media lists/kits
  • Be the media contact for the organisation (including being on-call as required), managing potential media issues
  • Manage the development and implementation of stakeholder relations initiatives including newsletters and annual reports
  • Develop media plans for key campaigns/events
  • Support the work of the fundraising team with appropriate content
  • Develop and implement and manage an internal communications strategy
  • Manage budgets and provide monthly board reports

 

Skills Required

 

This role would be suited to a communications generalist whose experience is heavily weighted in media/public relations.

 

You will have proven experience building the public profile of an organisation, a network of media contacts with the ability to manage both pro-active/reactive media.

 

More broadly you will have strong strategic communications experience including stakeholder engagement and internal communications.

 

You will be a creative thinker, a good planner and an excellent writer able to work collaboratively as part of a close, dynamic team who are passionate about the work of the organisation and who enjoy working in an animal friendly environment.
