About the role
Alzheimer’s Australia is the national peak body representing people with dementia and their families and carers. The organisation provides innovative services, is an advocate for people with dementia and their families and plays a key role in research, education and policy development working with government to understand more about the condition and to address the needs of those who are impacted.
The National Board of Alzheimer’s Australia, has begun the process of bringing the State and Territory Alzheimer’s Associations, which formed Alzheimer’s Australia in 1989, together in one unified national body which will be known as Dementia Australia. The new body is targeted to come into being following final sign off in the first half of 2017. A national organisational structure is to be implemented and the organisation is now seeking to hear from candidates interested in appointment to the executive team.
Reporting to the CEO, and having regular dealings with the Board, the Executive Director Consumer Engagement, Policy and Research will lead a key group of functions which ensure that the consumer voice remains central to the work of the organisation and that policy and research initiatives both support the work of the organisation and ensure impact is maximised.
Applicants wishing to be considered for the opportunity will need to be experienced strategic leaders with a collaborative approach and a commitment to the organisations Purpose and Values and attributes including:
• Demonstrated excellence in policy development and advocacy
• Excellent communication skills with a level of comfort working with a broad range of stakeholder including government, service providers, consumers and staff
• Working knowledge of the rapidly changing Aged Care and Health sectors, and insight into the opportunities and risks for Dementia Australia and the consumer perspective
• Understanding of state and federal government frameworks and processes
