About the role

Smiling Mind is seeking a talented, experienced and highly professional fundraising development manager to support our strategic growth towards our vision to see mindfulness on the national Australian curriculum by 2020.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Development Manager will develop and manage important relationships that will enable Smiling Mind achieve our vision. This role will build key relationships with Trusts and Foundations to maximise financial support for Smiling Mind and ensure capacity to deliver programmatic growth in alignment with our strategy. The development manager will coordinate and manage key relationships with trusts, philanthropic foundations and high net worth donors across Australia and work with the CEO and board to build long term, productive relationships with a portfolio of supporters through a personal and professional approach.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Belief in the purpose and philosophy of Smiling Mind
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong fundraising abilities
  • Experience and success in writing and managing grant applications
  • Experience working with and building relationships with trusts and foundations
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Accountability, ability to work to timelines and manage competing tasks
  • Ability to build and foster relationships
  • A belief in mindfulness, its practice, and its ability to support mental health

 

DESIRABLE

  • Strong established network of contacts across trusts and foundations
  • Excellent strategy development skills and experience mapping fundraising strategy to the overarching organisational strategy
  • Experience managing relationships across Government

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Fundraising and development strategy 
  • To implement the Smiling Mind fundraising and donor engagement strategy in partnership with CEO, board and key operational staff across departments
  • Develop a structured donor management strategy including donor engagement and retention and regular feedback about progress of projects funded and the progress of Smiling Mind overall. Raising Income 
  • To secure gifts from private and corporate trusts, foundations and high net worth individuals. • To manage a portfolio of prospects, preparing and implementing cultivation and solicitation plans for trusts and foundations.
  • To work with colleagues to identify and cultivate new donors to secure a range of sustainable funding relationships.
  • To develop and maintain specialised knowledge and information on all Smiling Mind programs and projects.
  • To lead proposal development, involving team members across program areas where appropriate, ensuring high quality written funding proposals matching operational objectives and tailored to specific criteria is submitted.
  • To undertake with colleagues the preparation of multiple funding applications. Where necessary organising visits, presentations, meetings, visual materials necessary to increase potential of securing funding.
  • To ensure the achievement of annual income and other non-financial targets.
  • To proactively identify, research and monitor new and existing funding opportunities, ensuring a consistently high level of prospecting and pipeline activity. Relationship Management
  • To lead contact with current and prospective donors in a proactive manner and to ensure ‘best-practice’ relationships including the submission of regular reports, accounts, invitations to talks, projects, workshops, etc.
  • To develop excellent relationships internally with colleagues to understand program budgets, resource requirements and areas of activity to enable strategic applications for funding and to ensure that program teams understand and adhere to funding requirements and to ensure the objectives of the grant are being met.

 

SALARY RANGE

  • Negotiable dependent on skills and experience
