About the organisation

Organisation Name : STREAT

STREAT is a leading Australian social enterprise and youth organisation based in inner Melbourne. We operate a portfolio of foodservice businesses, including cafes, a coffee roastery, an artisan bakery and a catering company. The businesses are where young people who really need a hand are given support and training to ensure they develop a healthy sense of self, work and home. To date STREAT has supported over 800 young people through its various programs, providing them with over 55,000 hours of support and training. Late last year we opened our amazing new flagship site at 66 Cromwell St, Collingwood which now builds the foundation for STREAT’s next growth spurt. Our audacious goal is to help 1095 young people per year – that’s one young person for each of the three meals you might be lucky enough to eat a day. We are looking to expand to other areas of Melbourne and to broaden the pathways for young people who need our help the most. Young people are integrated into every part of STREAT, with the Youth Programs Team placing them into our businesses to learn how to practically apply the professional and personal skills they learn every week while in our care. To achieve this, STREAT’s multi-disciplinary Youth Team is at the heart of and supported by a dedicated team of baristas, bakers, chefs and front of house aces – an amazing group of people, all looking to help our young people become the best version of themselves. It’s not at all a traditional environment for working with youth, but it’s delicious, dynamic and fun. As a social enterprise, generating its own revenue with virtually no reliance on government funding, we’ve got the flexibility and freedom to decide how to most effectively provide holistic support to young people.
