Our History

In 1962, the ParaVics Sports Club was formed to help a group of eight athletes with disability compete in national and international sporting competitions. We are proud to be the birthplace of the Victorian Paralympic movement. Since then, the organisation became Wheelchair Sports Victoria which then rebranded in 2010 to Disability Sport & Recreation to help all Victorians with a disability from grassroots players to elite athletes play and compete in the sports and recreational activities that they love.

About the role

About the Role

Disability Sport & Recreation (DSR) is the peak body for the disability sport & recreation sector in Victoria.  We are seeking a passionate communications professional with approximately three to five years’ experience to lead a range of innovative communications activities, events and fundraising campaigns.

You’re experienced but are now looking to gain a role with greater autonomy and accountability as the next step in your career.

This is a great opportunity to develop your management and strategic planning skills in a dynamic environment while enabling you to put your passion for social justice into action and make a real difference with your work.

You’re strategic, creative and with an eye for detail, looking for a broad and challenging role filled with opportunities to grow and achieve outstanding results.

Most of all, you’re looking for a position that will play a crucial role in supporting people with a disability find greater health through sport and recreation and you are eager to lead a varied portfolio covering the key communications aspects of fundraising, major events, branding, social media, website management and storytelling.

In this important role you’ll build on the great results achieved so far with award winning events, programs and partnerships in an organisation that has a significant history yet is changing rapidly to face the future.

You’ll use your strong project management skills and creative flair to develop marketing collateral, PR, media and digital strategies and strategic external partnerships that will grow the various aspects of DSR’s work – inspiring thousands of people to become active or donate.

This is a full-time position, based in our Fitzroy office near the Melbourne CBD.
