About the role

We are seeking expressions of interest from an experienced counsellor who is interested in joining the Family Violence Prevention and Legal Unit (FVPLU) team. The FVPLU is a community legal centre auspiced by the Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) which is based in Fitzroy Crossing, Kimberley, WA. MWRC is a healing informed and trauma aware community organisation that provides a range of services to women and children that positively contribute to the reduction of harm for families across the Fitzroy Valley.

 

About the Position

You will be responsible for providing counselling services within a holistic framework with Aboriginal women, children and families who have experienced Family Violence. You will assist our clients to recover from experiences and trauma relating to family violence. Services may include individual and family counselling, as well as group work with children and parents. You will be based within the Family Violence Prevention Legal Unit team as part of a care team that includes a solicitor, social worker, family safety advocate and client support officer.

Key requirements of the position are:

  • BA in Counselling or similar appropriate qualification
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience preferred
  • Experience of working within a trauma aware and healing informed practice
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in understanding and responding to the diverse needs of children, women and families who have experienced Family Violence
  • Understanding of therapeutic models including art and music therapy
  • Experience in working with Indigenous ways of knowing and doing and in a remote Aboriginal setting is preferred but not essential
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly with a small but efficient team

Competitive salary packaging with additional district allowance as well as housing allowances, flight allowances and attractive salary sacrifice are available for the right candidate, along with 7 weeks annual leave. Relocation assistance will also be considered depending on individual circumstances.
