Grow is a national mental health, community-based organisation that has helped thousands of Australians recover from mental illness through a unique and proven program of mutual support and personal development. Grow was established in Sydney in 1957. The founders were drawn together by their first-hand experience of mental illness. The wisdom and experience they gained in helping each other to recover their good mental health was carefully recorded and forms the basis of the unique Grow Program. Today there are around 180 Grow Groups across Australia. Groups meet weekly and are free. Grow Groups continue to be led by recovered members, maintaining our long held tradition as a consumer led organisation. Grow is a national not for profit with an annual turnover of approximately $6million per annum. Grow is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. Grow receives funding from each state and territory government and some federal funding. Grow has offices in each state and territory and the national office is located in Brisbane, Queensland.

About the role

Grow is seeking an honorary treasurer to join the Grow National Board. We are seeking a person with finance and accounting experience and previous board experience. You should also be eligible to join a company limited by guarantee.

Grow financial services are managed centrally at our National Office, led by our COO and supported by our senior finance officer, both of whom are qualified accountants. The COO provides secretariat support to the Board finance and audit sub-committee (F&A) and provides financial reports to the F&A and the Board. The national office is located in Brisbane.

The Grow National Board meets quarterly in various locations nationally. Board Meetings are generally held on a Saturday from 8.30am to 4pm. There are several board sub-committees including the Finance and Audit Committee. Committees generally meet quarterly by teleconference for up to two hours. Grow covers all costs associated with attending board and board committee meetings. There is a small honorarium.
