What we’re looking for;

  • An experienced professional who exhibits a clear understanding, of, and commitment to, effective clinical governance and continuous quality improvement;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based counselling therapies which may include: motivational enhancement techniques, ACT, psychosocial interventions, CBT & other counselling modalities;
  • Possess strong leadership skills with demonstrated interest and capacity in developing and managing clinical and support staff in a complex environment;
  • An individual who holds a tertiary qualifications in health sciences, social work or equivalent – eligibility to join a professional registration body such as AHPRA or AASW;
  • A strong communicator, with the ability to establish, build, and maintain robust relationships with a wide range of professionals and partner organisations; and
  • Someone with a flexible nature and the ability to multi-task on a variety of diverse work.

AOD Response Team;

The AOD Treatment Services program sits within the wider AOD Response Team which operates across the Northern and Western suburbs of Melbourne. The purpose of the AOD Response Team is to provide a holistic, social model of health care with the aim of addressing health inequities experienced by people who use drugs. This is achieved through offering a range of services including:

  • Needle and syringe program across multiple sites – providing service users with injecting equipment, education and referral
  • Community education worker(s) who raises harm reduction issues with the broader community
  • Community engagement and support workers who engage with clients in drop-in space and help coordinate health promotion campaigns
  • Health care teams, providing holistic health services to people who inject drugs.
  • Counselling and support – for those experiencing difficulties with their own or another’s drug use
  • Family drug support for people experiencing issues related to the drug use of their loved ones and significant others

The role;

Responsible for providing supervision, support and mentorship to the AOD Counsellors and support staff across the regions the AOD Response Team operates. Working closely with AOD Sector central intake and assessment teams across the region to ensure clients have access to counselling and treatment in a timely and streamlined fashion. You will also be required to act as a resource across the relevant disciplines at cohealth and promote the notion and practice of evidence based counselling and psychosocial interventions for drug using populations across clinical sites at cohealth.

The Practice Lead will undertake direct service provision, both at cohealth and in conjunction with external organisations as required, as a component of their role in order to remain current with clinical practice and also to enable their continuation of professional registration with AHPRA

This position will be paid under the Community Health Centre (Stand Alone Services) Social and Community Service Employees Multi Enterprise Agreement 2013 – 2015. Social Worker, Class 4 (SCHADS level 5, years dependent on experience).
