About the role

We are seeking expressions of interest from an experienced Solicitor who is interested in joining the Family Violence Prevention and Legal Unit (FVPLU) team. The FVPLU is a community legal centre auspiced by the Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) which is based in Fitzroy Crossing, Kimberley, WA. MWRC is a healing informed and trauma aware community organisation that provides a range of services to women and children that positively contribute to the reduction of harm for families across the Fitzroy Valley.

About the Position

You will be responsible for delivering comprehensive legal services, including legal assistance for care and protection matters, family law, violent restraining orders, criminal injuries compensation and community legal education to our clients within remote and local communities. The position is part of a care team that includes a social worker, counsellor, family safety advocate and client support officer.

Key requirements of the position are:

  • Minimum 3 years post admission experience preferred
  • Experience in working within a client centred legal environment
  • High commitment towards providing the best legal advice and service to our clients
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly with a small but efficient team
  • Experience in working with Indigenous ways of knowing and doing and in a remote Aboriginal setting is preferred but not essential

Competitive salary packaging with additional district allowance as well as housing allowances, flight allowances and attractive salary sacrifice are available for the right candidate, along with 7 weeks annual leave. Relocation assistance will also be considered depending on individual circumstances.
